If you haven't heard, Blockbuster has stopped renting out HD-DVD's in 70% of their stores, but they haven't stopped renting out Blu-Ray discs. Excuse me plkrtn? While you are intitled to your opinion, I doubt HD-DVD will win the format war. Agree - This is the only release that comes in 2 formats so we should be prepared.(Probably in a number of channels between 5.1 and 7.1) The "format war" is far from over, so it will be a long time before anyone can really guess at what the result will be. It could be LPCM, Dolby Digital, Dolby TrueHD, DTS-HD Master Audio, etc. (That movie is considered to be among the highest quality home video releases available in terms of video.) In addition, the audio codec is still unknown. Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest, a Disney/Buena Vista release on BD, was encoded in MPEG-4/AVC, which is much more efficient and can provide better quality. ![]() MPEG-2 was used for encoding the video in the older BDs (from the format's launch) but is now used less often. ![]()
